One of the state’s earliest major water projects, the Los Angeles
Aqueduct, supplies water and electricity to 3.8 million residents
in the city of Los Angeles. Serving as a wholesale entity
for most of the southern California region, the Metropolitan
Water District imports water from the Colorado
River and State Water Project and supplies it to member
agencies and cities. Many cities also rely on groundwater,
especially those along the coast.
