Kern River Tour 2026
Field Trip - November 4-6
*IMPORTANT* In anticipation of high demand, the Foundation will be allocating tickets via lottery with a maximum of 2 participants per organization. To enter, please thoroughly review the tour details below so you’re fully aware of the time and financial commitments, then complete this entry form.
Entrants randomly selected via the ticket lottery will be contacted beginning on August 19 with an opportunity to register for the tour. *Tickets will be released in small batches over time, so you may not hear right away.*
This special, first-ever Foundation water tour will only be offered once! Join us on this special journey as we examine water issues along the Kern River, from its mountain-fed headwaters in the southern Sierra Nevada to its terminus in the Central Valley west of Bakersfield. Among the planned stops are both upper forks of the Kern River, Lake Isabella, lower Kern River canyon, the Friant-Kern Canal, irrigated agriculture in the valley, the Kern Water Bank and more.
This 2-night tour will begin the evening of Nov. 4 in Bakersfield with an opening reception and presentation, and end the afternoon of Nov. 6 back in Bakersfield.

Tour Start & End Points:
The tour begins and ends at Hyatt Place Bakersfield, including two overnight stays which are arranged by the Foundation and covered by the registration fee. Free parking is available on site to tour participants at Hyatt Place for the duration of the tour.
Dinner on the evening of November 4 is not included, but there are many nearby restaurant options.
The tour’s opening post-dinner reception and presentation will be at 7:00 p.m. on November 4 at Hyatt Place Bakersfield. The bus tour portion then begins at 7:45 a.m. on November 5 and ends at Hyatt Place Bakersfield at 1:30 p.m. on November 6.
A “Sacramento Option” ticket is available, which starts and ends in Sacramento. Find more information under Pricing Details.
Opportunities to board the tour bus during scheduled stops in the San Joaquin Valley on November 4 and disembark on November 6 at no extra charge will also be available. More details coming soon.
Pricing Details:
General – $769 (one person, single-occupancy room)
- Fee includes all tour meals, transportation, materials, snacks and hotel accommodations once the tour begins Wednesday evening. Meals covered by the registration fee include breakfast on Thursday through lunch on Friday. Participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from the tour’s beginning and end point.
Sacramento Option – $799 (one person, single-occupancy room)
- This ticket option is available to anyone who wants to add transportation aboard the tour bus from and back to the Foundation’s office in Sacramento. The bus will depart at 11:45 a.m. on November 4 and return at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Friday, November 6. Lunch on November 4 is included. Contact Nick Gray via email with any questions.
Cancellation & Refund Policy:
The deadline to cancel and receive a refund is three weeks prior to the tour due to lodging, meal and transportation commitments. Substitutions are allowed up to five business days before the tour. Credit card processing fees are nonrefundable and the remaining refund amount may be subject to additional fees.
We recognize that unexpected conflicts with our tours may occur. The Water Education Foundation recommends you consider arranging travel insurance from a provider of your choice soon after tour registration to protect against such unfortunate events.
MCLE Credit Hours:
Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) credit hours are available only to California attorneys for an additional fee. Contact Nick Gray via email with any questions.
