Description: Join us this summer to explore the impacts of a changing climate within the Feather River watershed. We will learn about projects designed to increase ecological and climate resiliency within the State Water Project – one of the most important water supply sources for the entire state.
Build your own environmental literacy as we explore the connections between local water infrastructure, ecosystems and our statewide California water systems. Participants will hear from water resource and aquatic ecosystem professionals and engage in Project WET activities that they can bring back to their classrooms.
The institute will be held on June 25-26, followed by:
- A Feather River Salmon kayak trip in October (date TBD)
- Zoom meeting in early November (date TBD) to share curriculum project summaries
Highlights of the Butte Water Institute include:
- Learning about the impacts of wildfire on the Feather River watershed
- Discovering the Iron Canyon Fish Passage Project on Big Chico Creek
- Training in Project WET and taking home a Project WET guide
- Receiving a copy of the newly released Backyard Stewardship Guide from the Butte County FireSafe Council
- Exploring how to incorporate stewardship principles into your school or home landscape
- Learning about the importance of Oroville Dam and Lake Oroville, the anchor reservoir of the State Water Project
