Description: DELTA REGION EDUCATORS! Join us this summer for a multi-day exploration of the Cosumnes River Preserve and training for K-12 teachers, focused on regional water resources, the importance of floodplain ecosystems and first-hand experiential learning opportunities.
This experience will provide teachers with the tools to support students in learning about local watersheds and their function, use of Project WET activities to support development of environmental literacy and opportunities at to engage students in Preserve programs during the school year.
Highlights of the institute include:
- A guided canoe trip down the Cosumnes to its confluence with the Mokelumne;
- Explore floodplain restoration areas with project researchers;
- Learn about the relationship of floodplains to groundwater resources;
- Receive a copy of the Project WET curriculum guide and engage in innovative, locally relevant water education activities framed around NGSS;
- Free or low cost opportunities to engage students in Preserve outdoor learning and citizen science programs throughout the school-year;
- Instructional planning time with peers;
- Earn up to 2 units of continuing education credit from CSU Chico;
- Receive a $250 stipend upon completion;
