What are waterspouts? SLO County saw some during storm
Not only did the March 28 storm produce much-needed rain with the sound of thunder and scattered hail, but according to the National Weather Service, it may have produced a few waterspouts along the Central Coast. This leads to the question, what’s the difference between a tornado and a waterspout? To start, they are both columns of rotating air. The main difference is in where they form: A tornado begins over land, while a tornadic waterspout develops over water or moves from the land to the water.
