South Lake Tahoe residents return home as California’s Caldor fire nearly halfway contained
On Monday morning, the Caldor fire had been 44% contained, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said, nearly double what the agency reported Thursday. Authorities said lower temperatures, slowing winds and rises in humidity allowed firefighters to take advantage of the slowed pace of the wildfire to focus on mitigation efforts to keep the blaze from spreading further.
