Robots deployed to fight toxic algae
Scientists at the University of Southern California’s Viterbi School of Engineering (USC Viterbi) are using robotics to spot toxic algae blooms. Students programmed aquatic robots to track down prime locations for toxic algae. Their programming instructs the robots to detect harmful agal blooms (HAB) in lakes and other bodies of water from exploding and polluting our water supply. … According to the Centers for Disease Control in 2020, 13 states reported 227 harmful algal blooms (HAB). 95 people have gotten sick from them and one person died associated with paralytic shellfish poisoning.
