Outdoors Columnist: Recreation Options When Lake Levels Drop Too Low

“Shasta is the No. 1 lake in California for boating and water sports, and one of the best lakes in the Western United States for houseboating, camping and fishing. In spring 2010, after a wet winter, Shasta filled to create 370 miles of shoreline, and reached 95 percent full by the Fourth of July. … This weekend, just three years later, the level is at 66 percent, down 59 feet from full and dropping fast.”
