Marin water suppliers support Mendocino plant conversion
Marin water agencies are backing a proposal from a coalition of organizations in Sonoma and Mendocino counties to buy portions of a PG&E hydropower plant to enable water diversion. The boards representing the Marin Municipal Water District and the North Marin Water District agreed this month to submit a letter to federal and state legislators supporting the proposal to transfer ownership of the plant. The proposal centers around the Potter Valley Project, a 110-year-old hydropower plant in Mendocino County. Water diverted by the plant feeds into the Russian River watershed, which is a key part of Marin’s water portfolio.
