Major change coming to Tahoe’s Zephyr Shoals beach after partygoers trashed it
Lake Tahoe officials announced major changes to how one of Tahoe’s most abused and overused beaches will be managed in response to the havoc left behind after July Fourth. After national outrage over the 6,279 pounds of trash collected from Zephyr Shoals on July 5, the League to Save Lake Tahoe and U.S. Forest Service announced that the beach will no longer be an unregulated free-for-all. Starting in the fall, the beach is slated to be managed by a third-party concessionaire with the goal of saving the beach from the impacts of “irresponsible partygoers.”
