Mad River flooding nears 1964 record
Saturday evening, the Mad River saw its most significant flooding since 1964. The water level peaked at 27.24 feet at 8 p.m., reaching flood stage at 22 feet around 3 p.m. The previous recorded high was in 1964 at 30.7 feet. These records began in 1950. Doug Boushey, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service Office in Eureka attributed the flooding to widespread, heavy rains across the Humboldt Bay area with already saturated grounds.
