Latest inspection, test results show Pine Hill Egg Ranch addressing water-quality issues
The Demler Brothers Egg Ranch, often referred to as the Pine Hill Egg Ranch by locals, has been addressing the water-quality issues included in last year’s cease-and-desist order, according to the San Diego Regional Water Quality Control Board. The regional water quality board in November approved the order after a report was released that stated contaminated wastewater from its Ramona egg-processing and composting facilities had gotten into stormwater basins and two nearby creeks. A three-year investigation by water board staff also found that the company was composting without a permit and that no linings were used to prevent contaminated water from getting into the local groundwater supply, according to the water board report. But the company has been turning things around, said Christina Arias, water resource control engineer with the water board.
