Famously secretive Marin County beach closes for the first time ever
A bucolic town better known for its penchant for secrecy — tearing down road signs, for example — and an ongoing fight to save its post office was hit with some truly rotten news last week. Marin County officials closed Bolinas Beach for the first time ever due to high levels of wastewater contamination near the shoreline, as reported by the Point Reyes Light. Routine water quality tests by the county’s Environmental Health Services typically take place from April to October, but the problem came to light during a building permit inspection on Sept. 5.
