The latest version came earlier this month, when he suggested that the Columbia River could be diverted to help California to soak the ground. … Scientists are far from sold on the idea… Trump is “gesturing at something that is important — that we need to take care of our forests in a different way than we have,” said Michael Wara, a senior research scholar at the Stanford University Woods Institute for the Environment. But “the only kind of water that puts out fires is the kind of water that comes in the winter in the form of rain and snow.”
