Early snowpack for Nevada off to promising start
Snowpacks in Nevada are off to a promising start, but whether the state will see another generous winter and hardy water year will be determined over the next three months. Hydrologists say it’s still too early to determine if snowpack this winter will be enough to make 2025 a good water year for Nevada … Snowpack in Nevada and Eastern Sierra, a major source of water for the Truckee River, is above normal at 124% of median, compared to 56% at this time last year. In Northern Nevada, early snowpack is especially promising. Eastern Sierra Walker Basin has collected about 109% of the median snowpack, while snowpack in Eastern Nevada is currently at 164% of the median, according to the U.S. Department of Agricultural Natural Resources Conservation Service’s winter outlook report. Warmer temperatures, however, have resulted in below normal snowpack across Nevada’s valley floors and lower elevations.
