His books and articles attracted the notice of Rose McMackin, former whitewater guide, freelance journalist, and pop culture writer in Austin, Texas. She is also the daughter of our third guest, Becca Lawton, an author, fluvial geologist, and pioneering Grand Canyon boatwoman living in Northern California.
