Carmel-by-the-Sea flood protection work underway
State, federal and county agencies worked together on Wednesday to mitigate the risk of flooding at the Carmel River Lagoon. Work was done to create what’s called a “pilot channel” which will connect the lagoon to Monterey Bay — alleviating pressure from the lagoon. The surrounding neighborhood was hit hard in 2021 following storms and rising water levels, with homes being completely flooded. Jamie Adams, a resident who lives in the area, says his home was a few feet from being flooded.
