The Water Education Foundation, which celebrates its 49th birthday this year, is proud to be the only organization in the West providing comprehensive, unbiased information about the region’s most critical natural resource. Through our workshops, water leadership programs and explorations of key watersheds, we bring the West’s myriad challenges and opportunities into context to help build sound and collective solutions to water issues.
So, don’t miss your chance to go beyond the news headlines and gain a deeper understanding of how water flows across California and its challenges by signing up for our popular spring tours and workshops below, all of which have limited seating and may sell out before long!
Water 101 Workshop | March 26
Whether you’re a rookie water professional in need of a great statewide primer or a veteran water wonk just wanting a thorough refresher, your best opportunity to learn how water works in California is our once-a-year Water 101 Workshop – The Basics & Beyond!
Hosted at Cal State Sacramento’s Harper Alumni Center, the one-day workshop is an ideal way to get a statewide perspective on key water issues for new water district board members, water agency staff, engineering and environmental consultants, city council members, county supervisors, legislators, legislative staff, press, advocates, attorneys, environmentalists, public interest organizations and others.
Plus, workshop participants are invited to also sign up for an optional watershed tour March 27, the day after the workshop, including a lunch cruise on the Sacramento River aboard the River City Queen. Get more details and register here!
Central Valley Tour | April 22-24
Implementation of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act, land repurposing, frequent drought, dwindling surface water supplies, water quality concerns and land subsidence are just some of the topics explored on our Central Valley Tour, which will not be offered in 2027!
Throughout our journey across the San Joaquin Valley, participants will learn directly from farmers, water managers, disadvantaged community advocates and others about efforts to sustain one of the nation’s most productive agricultural regions that relies on imported surface water and diminishing groundwater. Get more details and register here!
Bay-Delta Tour | May 20-22
Participants on our popular Bay-Delta Tour travel with us deep into California’s water hub and traverse the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, a 720,000-acre network of islands and canals that supports the state’s water system and serves as a critical ecological resource, before venturing into and across the San Francisco Bay.
In anticipation of high demand, the Foundation will be allocating tickets via a lottery method. Please carefully review the tour details here before submitting the provided entry form at the top of the tour page. Those selected via the ticket lottery will be contacted soon!
