“A few weeks ago, Senator Feinstein made news by calling for significant measures to address California’s dire water supply situation, including the construction of more storage and perhaps even modifications to the Endangered Species Act. …

“Shasta is the No. 1 lake in California for boating and water sports, and one of the best lakes in the Western United States for houseboating, camping and fishing. In spring 2010, after a wet winter, Shasta filled to create 370 miles of shoreline, and reached 95 percent full by the Fourth of July.
“No region in California has been impacted more by our state’s broken water system than the Central Valley. … Fortunately, Gov. Jerry Brown’s Bay Delta Conservation Plan and the 2014 Water Bond provide immediate and viable solutions to keep the breadbasket to the world going and growing.”
“Assemblyman Brian Dahle, who represents Nevada County in the lower house of the California legislature, brought a delegation of lawmakers to tour the county with an emphasis on understanding how the region plays a pivotal role in the entire state’s past, present and future.
“Forestry, water and fire in the Sierras are things I’m educating them on,” Dahle said of his fellow delegates.”

“The message is clear: We must do more to prepare for increasingly harmful dry years by capturing more water in wet years. In short, California needs a lot more water storage – and we need it now. … California’s Legislature also must do its part by updating the long-anticipated water bond and ensuring that it includes adequate funding for water storage.”
