What’s New: 2016 Tour Dates Set
Mark your calendars – the Water Education Foundation has set the dates for the 2016 water tours.
Six tours will be offered in 2016, including a new San Diego Tour, which will include a visit to the Carlsbad Desalination Plant, May 19-20.
Other tour dates for 2016: Lower Colorado River Tour, March 2-4; Central Valley Tour, April 13-15; Bay-Delta Tour, June 15-17; Northern California Tour, October 19-21; and the San Joaquin River Restoration Tour, November 2-3.
Early bird registration discounts are available for all the tours. A limited number of scholarships are available in certain cases. Continuing education credits may be available for an additional fee for attorneys and water plant, wastewater plant operators, and other vocations/professions.
Tour sponsorships also are available. Benefits for tour sponsors include publicity on tour materials, the web and social media, as well as free seats on tours.

Tour the Colorado River
The first tour of the year, March 2-4, is the Lower Colorado River Tour. This three- day, two-night tour begins in Las Vegas and ends at California’s Ontario Inter- national Airport. Along the way participants will enjoy a private tour of Hoover Dam and a boat ride on Lake Mead. Other stops include the Central Arizona Project Mark Wilmer pumping plant, and visits to the Havasu National Wildlife refuge, farms in the Imperial and Coachella valleys, and the Salton Sea.
The tour is co-sponsored by the Bureau of Reclamation, Lower Colorado Region and the Riverside County Flood Control & Water Conservation District.

Water 101: The Basics and Beyond
It’s time to go back to school Feb. 4-5 as the Water Education Foundation holds its day-and-a-half course on California water basics and water district board member governance. The course will be held at the Civic Center Galleria, 1110 West Capitol Ave., in West Sacramento.
The course is open to anyone, but will be especially beneficial to water re- source industry staff, engineering and environmental firm personnel, legislators, legislative staff, advocates, stakeholders, environmentalists, public interest organizations and water district directors.
Top speakers include Lester Snow, former California natural resources secretary and director of the state Department of Water Resources who now heads the California Water Foundation; Dennis O’Connor, principal consultant of the California Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Water, and Paula Landis, executive officer of the California Water Commission. Registration for both days is $285. One-day registration for Feb. 5-only is $225.
