Drought coverage continued. Among the headlines were “For Imperial Valley Farmers, Abundant Water Amid Drought,” an article in the Los Angeles Times; “Two Reservoirs Near Hetch Hetchy Tapped,” San Francisco Chronicle; “In a Dry California, Some Water-saving Efforts,” Associated Press; and “Firefighters, Residents Bracing for Long Fire Season,” Bay Area News Group. Commentaries included “Failed Leadership, Not Drought, is Source of Water Problems,” The Sacramento Bee, and “For Salmon, More at Stake than Dollars,” San Francisco Chronicle.

Water For People Event: Sacramento Water for People will hold a fundraiser Tuesday, March 18, from 5-8 p.m., at Track 7 Brewery (near Sacramento City College). On tap to speak will be Mark Cowin, director of the California Department of Water Resources. Gov. Jerry Brown and Sutter have been invited. This event coincides with World Water Day, which is Saturday, March 22.

Banks, whose bio is included in the Historical Water People section of the Water Education Foundation’s vetted, interactive online water encyclopedia. Read the post, “Harvey O. What’s on the Calendar? This week’s events include today’s “Wetlands and Carbon Offsets,” the first in a five-part series of Brown Bag Seminars in Sacramento on The Delta Carbon Cycle; a State Water Resources Control Board meeting/hearing/workshop March 18-19 in Sacramento; a Sacramento Water for People event the evening of Tuesday, March 18; and a California Water Commission meeting Wednesday, March 19, in Sacramento. Looking ahead to next week is the Foundation’s Executive Briefing Thursday, March 27, in Sacramento. A retirement reception for Executive Director Rita Schmidt Sudman begins at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, in Sacramento. At the reception, she will introduce her successor, Jennifer Bowles.
