Delta Stewardship Council: Aquafornia Water Word of the Week
Aquafornia’s Water Word of the Week from sister site Aquapedia, the Water Education Foundation’s interactive online water encyclopedia, is Delta Stewardship Council.
Here is an excerpt from Aquapedia’s entry: “Created as a state agency in 2009, the seven-member panel is responsible for creating a plan, known as the Delta Plan, to deliver a more reliable water supply while also protecting, restoring, and enhancing restoring the Delta ecosystem … The Council is responsible for determining if a state or local agency project is consistent with the co-equal goals water supplies and ecosystem restoration and serves as the appellate body if there is a conflict with a proposed project. As part of this oversight, the Council determines if the Bay Delta Conservation Plan is consistent with its goals and ensures that the Department of Fish and Wildlife and the State Water Resources Control Board identify the water flow needs of the Delta ecosystem to help determine the appropriate water export amounts associated with the BDCP.”
Aquapedia also lists a variety of related Foundation and other resources that are available for further studies by teachers, students, community leaders, journalists, water professionals, and the general public.
The Aquafornia Water Word of the Week for Dec. 23, 2013, was BDCP, which is included on Aquapedia in both the Useful Acronyms section and under the more than 200 definitions of water terms from A to Z.
Aquapedia also offers bios on historical water people, videos, photos, timelines and a directory of water interests.
