High Stakes at the Salton Sea (60-minute version)

Formed by the joint forces of man and nature in the early 1900s, the Salton Sea today is at the center of a dilemma: how to reduce the sea’s salinity and save the wildlife that depend on the sea and implement a water transfer that will reduce inflow into the sea. The story of the Salton Sea and possible solutions to this dilemma are told in this public television documentary. Hosted by actor Val Kilmer (Top Gun, The Doors) and produced in conjunction with KVIE in Sacramento, this hour-long documentary aired on PBS stations in spring 2002.
