Revised Delta Layperson's Guide Now Available
Copies of the revised and updated Layperson's Guide to the Delta are now available from the Foundation. Expanded to 24 pages and now in full color, the guide has been updated to include comprehensive information about the Bay-Delta Conservation Plan, new information about ongoing Delta litigation and an overview of the Delta Risk Management Strategy.
     The guide also includes a new section on land use and development pressures, a glossary of common terms and information on the many state and federal agencies involved in Delta issues.

Register Today for the Northern California Tour
Sign-ups are underway for the Foundation's September 22-24 Northern California Tour, which travels the length of the Sacramento Valley and includes visits to Oroville and Shasta dams.
     Other tentative stops on this three-day, two-night tour include the Feather River Fish Hatchery, Red Bluff Diversion Dam, flood control projects, area farms, Iron Mountain Mine clean-up plant, Glenn Colusa Irrigation District pump station and fish screens and the site for the proposed Sites Reservoir, and ecosystem restoration projects. The tour is cosponsored by the California Department of Water Resources, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, Mid-Pacific Region, George Miller and Janet McKinley, GEI Consultants, MWH and PBS&J.
     Issues to be discussed by a wide variety of speakers include a general overview of the Sacramento River, Central Valley Project and State Water Project operations, flood management and levees, farming, groundwater management conjunctive use and area-of-origin water rights and salmon restoration. The tour begins and ends at Sacramento International Airport.

Winners of our “California Water” Photo Contest
The Foundation would like to announce the winners of the 2010 “California Water” photo contest!

Michael Carl won for his photo of the Upper Kern River. Michael is a freelance writer and photographer whose work focuses on California rivers and their diverse fisheries. He edits and develops content for the Ecological Angler, a website targeted to the fishing community: http://www.ecoangler.com.

Steve Folino won for his photo of Yosemite, shot across the Merced River and the Yosemite Valley towards El Capitan. Both winners will receive $50 and a copy of the Foundation's Emmy award-winning documentary, Salt of the Earth: Salinity in California's Central Valley. The winners will also be announced on our Facebook page and Aquafornia.

Water Quality Conference Set
The latest information and research on key drinking water quality issues - perchlorate, arsenic and emerging contaminants - will be featured Nov. 3-4 at the 2010 Water Quality & Regulatory Conference. The conference will be held at the DoubleTree Hotel and Conference Center in Ontario, Calif. The keynote speaker will be Shane Snyder, one of the foremost experts on emerging contaminants and pharmaceuticals. Snyder is a professor of chemical and environmental engineering at the University of Arizona.
     Sponsored by the East Valley Water District, the Water Research Foundation, McAndrews & Boyd, and the Water Education Foundation, the conference also will include a special track focusing on emergency response to water quality issues related to earthquakes and other disasters.
     This three-track, two-day program will present timely information for water utility executives and managers, treatment plant operators, scientists, researchers, and engineers. Abstracts are still being accepted; the deadline to submit an abstract is Aug. 15. Registration until September 15 is $299; $350 after Sept. 15; and $370 at the door.
